Learn how to make a turned lidded box without using a jam chuck. The demonstration includes a slide show on design considerations for a wood box based on the intended use and type of wood. Will cover making a lidded box with different orientations to the wood grain and with different was a lid can be made to fit on the body of the box. Will demonstrate the turning of a box and lid using a bowl gouge, skew and scraper. With emphasis on the proper use of a scraper to hollow a box and a skew to finish the internal sides. Will show how to turn the box and lid without having to waste wood by making a jam chuck to hold the item being turned. A method that can be applied to other types of projects.
